Faye (Lady Bug) Pierson and her late husband, Tom, founded Bug Engineering in 1958, and built its first kart from scratch in the garage. Bug was later renamed K&P (Karts & Parts) Manufacturing in Azusa, CA and was the world's oldest kart manufacturer until they closed the doors in 2014. According to one 1960 report, Bug Engineering was producing as many as 320 complete karts a day. In 1970 Bug introduced the new Bug Stinger sidewinder that was an instant success and received yearly incremental improvements until superseded by the Bug Wasp and later chassis.
Bug chassis's continued to be a major contender in kart racing well into to 90's and have been driven by most of the karting legends at one time or another racking up many National and International Championships. Bug (K&P Manufacturing) closed the business in 2014. Faye still attends (and drives) numerous vintage karting events and also runs the day to day operations at the K&P Manufacturing Karting Museum located in Azusa, California.
